Daily Scriptural Reflection

By Fr. Bill Adams, C.Ss.R.

February 4 - Saturday of the Fourth Week of the Year
1 Kings 3/4-13, Mark 6/30-34

King Solomon has succeeded his father on the throne of Israel. He recognized his youth and inability by himself to govern this people rightly. So he asks for an understanding heart and the wisdom to do what is right in God's eyes. God then gives him all that he needs for the work God has called him to do and even much more. There is a calling from God on each of our lives. Do I really trust God to give me everything I need to fulfill all that he has called me to do? All that he has called me to be?

In our Gospel we see the compassionate heart of Jesus for the needs of all his people. His Apostles are tired from their ministry, so Jesus invites them to spend some time alone with him. They can rest and he can listen to their stories. But a great crowd has arrived before Jesus and the Apostles. Now his heart reaches out to them and he teaches them at great length. Jesus has a compassionate heart for the needs of all his people. Do I have that same heart in me so he can use me to reach out and touch people in need?
