Daily Scriptural Reflection

by Fr. Kevin Fraher, C.Ss.R.

Melody and music lift our hearts. Scripture readings and the explanations in homilies need melody and music to bring head and heart together, facilitating reflection, harmonizing differences, soothing and comforting, exciting and energizing us for the glory of God and the good of all.

September 7, 2010 Ps 149: 1-6, 9

"He adorns the lowly with victory." Our loving Lord abhors arrogance and adorns the lowly. Now that is refreshing and good reason to break out into an ever new song of praise, rejoicing with great gladness. It can be an exhilarating feeling to be aware of our lowliness, admit it, and thus open ourselves to the victories our God is eager to give. By God's grace we are called to nothing less than greatness. Together with God and God's Assembly we have the power of love. God created us, God reigns over us, and God loves us dearly, faithfully. Sing, at least in your hearts. Sing out an ever new song of praise.
